A NEW mural is being painted in the NCP car park by local artists to freshen up a 'drab' corridor.

The artwork is on the College Street entrance to the car park and local artists Catt Standen and Anna Best hope to finish by the end of next week.

Work started on Monday morning (May 13) and is replacing a Luigi mosaic that had been there since the Worcester Paint Festival three years ago. Worcester News: Something bright, bold and colourful Something bright, bold and colourful (Image: Daniel Kelly)

Sam Pisani, Cathedral Square centre manager said: "The building is a 1960s build and it has fallen into a bit of a state of disrepair.

"So we have decided to revamp the whole space using local artists.

"We use a lot of local people for things and we hope that this is going to be a nice place for people to walk through."

The artists were given free reign over the area and were thankful for all the support from the team at Cathedral Square.

Anna Best said: "We decided to do an abstract piece using the colour pallet from the Cathedral Square branding.

"We wanted to do something that was bright, bold and colourful.

"It's not the easiest to work on pebbledash, but it's great to work on a blank canvas in our own style.

"It's always a massive pleasure to work on artwork in our local community, this area was a bit tired and not the most pleasant, but once we have finished, it should be a nice place to walk through."

The pair were first approached around two months ago and drafted a small collage before scaling the artwork onto the walls of the entrance.

Catt Standen said: "It's going to be a nice walk through to the cathedral, its the gateway to the city and hopefully it's going to be a bit of a selfie point.

"We have been here for three days and we have had really positive feedback from people passing by as well as the stopped cars on the main road.

"We are upcycling existing infrastructure and it's an incredible opportunity.

"It's not often that you get to work together with another artist on such a big project."
